The Monbulk Respect project concept was developed after a Family Violence Awareness forum was held in Monbulk facilitated by the Country Women's Association (CWA) in April 2014.
Dandenong Ranges Music Council (DRMC) representatives attended the forum and recognised the need for the issue to be addressed.
Out of the forum grew an idea to create a family violence prevention campaign with the community of Monbulk using the mediums of film and song to spread the prevention message.
DRMC successfully applied to the Victorian Government's Department of Justice Community Crime Prevention Program for funding to support the Monbulk Respect family violence prevention project.
The Monbulk Respect film and song being created and delivered with the community will be publically launched as part of the state-wide White Ribbon Day 16 days of activism starting in November 2014.
